Robinson Brick receives land reclamation award

The Colorado Department of Natural Resources presented a land reclamation award to Robinson Brick Company in November. The state recognized Robinson Brick for its outstanding remediation efforts at its Apache mine site. This is the fifth time the company has been recognized by the state for its stewardship of the land and rehabilitation of Colorado wildlife.

Robinson Brick Company and Terry Galbreath of the Bonny Burn ranch worked in conjunction with the Colorado Department of Fish and Wildlife. The goal was to remediate and enhance a pond and wildlife habitat that was suitable for indigenous species. The Colorado Department of Natural Resources Mined Land Reclamation Board recognized Robinson Brick and the Bonny Burn Ranch for exceeding mitigation practices. together they received the 2001 Reclamation Award at the Colorado Rock Products Association's annual meeting in Grand Junction.

"Our mining activity should ultimately beautify the land to the same extent that our brick beautifies architecture," said Bob Jaster, president of Robinson Brick. "It is exciting to see our commitment to the environment recognized by the State of Colorado."

Today the brick manufacturer owns and operates 13 active mine sites. The Apache mine, over 100 miles away from Robinson's main facilities and adjacent tot the Bonny Burn Ranch, occupies over 1,700 acres of land. The Apache clays are rare, and they can be found in a 10-15 mile radius around the mine. The land, including both the surface and minerals, is split in multiple ways between the state, the ranch, and Robinson Brick.
